Hello! My name is Martin McGowan, and I’m 33 years old with a profound love for dogs. The inspiration behind starting Spike’s Tail Wag Walks stems from a very special dog named Spike, who not only opened my eyes to the world of canine companionship but also helped me navigate my own personal struggles. This beloved dog made such an impact on my life that I decided to name my business in his honour.

Dogs have always been an integral part of my life. Growing up, I was surrounded by family dogs, and I often joke that I was practically raised by them! This deep connection instilled in me a passion for dogs from a young age. With the valuable guidance of my family members, I learned how to properly interact with dogs, understanding their body language and recognizing when it’s appropriate to engage with them. My grandfather even served as the Chief Instructor at the Woolwich Obedience Training Club, so you could say that learning about dog behaviour runs in the family.

Taking Spike on daily walks became a cherished routine for me, and it dawned on me that I truly enjoyed the experience. Why not extend this joy to other dog owners in my community? That’s when the idea for Spike’s Tail Wag Walks was born. With a lifetime of experience caring for dogs—having had them in my family since I was just three years old—I felt compelled to create a business that prioritizes the happiness and well-being of dogs and their owners.

In addition to my love for dogs, I have acquired relevant skills to enhance my services, including pet first aid training. This knowledge allows me to ensure the safety and health of every dog in my care.
